It's been years since I last purchased something that fits the aesthetic I desire to build. The past few years were spent "adulting" and pouring 99% of my time into all the responsibilities that came with transitioning into my early thirties, becoming a housewife and caring for all of our four furchildren. I haven't abandoned my hobbies, I was simply too busy.
My last purchase was a porcelain doll from the late 1800s, I think. I had so much disposable income—aka allowance, lol—and spent it all on vintage items and antiques which I still own to this day. I have since moved to a different city after getting married, and have yet to move my collection to our place due to the lack of storage. I'd love to document everything once I get them all back.
I miss the smell of secondhand books, old photographs and the copper-y scent of old jewelry. I miss browsing through all the ridiculous ads in vintage magazines and bringing old clothes back to life; getting lost in antique shops, and indulging my eyes in all the pieces of history I want to keep for myself. I even miss that Amazon Prime subscription I abused so much with reference book hauls in my twenties, and lord knows just how much I tried to restrain myself from lusting after all the vintage pieces on Etsy and eBay!
Where we live now, I am surrounded by tons of secondhand bookshops and antique dealers, and I can't wait to start collecting again. For now, I guess it wouldn't be bad to start with rebuilding my aesthetic. Hopefully this time I'll get enough motivation to keep everything up. I have a terrible habit of ditching my passions once I drown in responsibilities. Though that's probably just me and more than 80% of the human population.
I make small purchases here and there for trinkets that inspire me. This comb and mirror set isn't vintage, but definitely fits the aesthetic I want to build. The intricate details of Asian designs inspire me so much and I can't wait to learn more. I'm looking to get more into Korean culture and clothing now since my husband is Korean. I'd love to visit The Hanbok Museum and purchase some textiles when we're finally able to visit my in-laws.
I will update more once I get the time. Please leave a link to your blog if you have one. I'm trying to cure my short attention span with more reading, and having more friends with similar hobbies would also be nice.
I'll see you on my next post!
